Niantic is hosting Pokémon Go’s third in game event this Thanksgiving weekend.
As a thank you to players Pokémon Go will give out double XP and Stardust when completing in-game actions between November 23rd to November 30th
If you are curious about what the developers of mobile app sensation Pokémon Go will be giving thanks for this weekend the answer is you. Well, you and the small mountain of micro transaction money they will be sitting on.
Niantic has officially confirmed a new in game event for Pokémon Go. There have been rumors that Niantic would hold a Thanksgiving themed event and this does align with the US holiday, running November 23rd to November 30th, however it will not be themed as such. This is likely because of the games larger international audience.
Pokémon Go is now available in over 120 countries, after Niantic released in the game in eight more nations in the past week. Trainers can now also hunt the digital monsters in Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The event is being framed as a thank you to the game’s players for their continuing support. Starting this weekend trainers will earn double the amount of XP and Stardust when completing in-game actions. This will presumably include daily catch bonus which was recently introduced. This event is a great opportunity for players just shy of their next level or the ones who are grinding at higher levels.
The full announcement from PokemonGolive reads as follows:
Trainers,
It has been an incredible experience since we launched Pokémon GO a few short months ago in July. We are passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise. We are humbled that hundreds of millions of you around the world have joined us on this journey. So we would like to say thank you – and what better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community.
So, starting November 23rd at 00:00 UTC and going through November 30th 00:00 UTC, we will double the amount of XP and Stardust you receive when completing in-game actions.
The Pokémon GO team
Pokémon Go has been trying a lot harder recently to reach out and engage players. Niantic’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mike Quigley, hinted at even better things to come in the near future. With cold winters approaching in for many players this is certainly the right time to be boosting player engagement. Do you think they are on the right track?
