Uncharted Wraps

The official Uncharted Movie Twitter account posted earlier today that primary filming on the upcoming game adaptation has wrapped.

The film has been in development for more than 10 years. It was first pitched in 2008, before Uncharted 2 even hit shelves. It has been plagued with development issues including trouble finding a director. Perhaps it was all for the best, as the 2010s saw a number of youth focused films of questionable quality (I’m looking at you Hunger Games, Divergent, etc).

After a juggling directors and recasting multiple times, the film has crossed a major milestone. Principle photography began in March of this year, but experienced a temporary disruption due to COVID. Shooting resumed in July and has finally wrapped.

Personally I am looking forward to this one. Video game adaptions can be hit and miss but I am hoping the cinematic nature of the uncharted franchise will lend itself well to movies. I am still not entirely sold on a young Nathan, mostly because I like Elena almost as much a Nathan. But I am keeping an open mind. Especially toward Tom Holland, who I think can pull the quippyness off. Despite what half of twitter seems to think.

Uncharted is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and stars Tom Holland (Spider-Man Homecoming) and Mark Walberg (Mile 22, Transformers: The Last Knight). It is due to hit theatres July 21st, 2021. (Hopefully)
